Makisig explains how Paul Cezanne changed art – forever!
January 15, 2024Makisig Akiwumi is a 12-year-old boy from Guildford, England, who has a passion for acting and
a talent for musicals. He is currently on an international tour with the School of Rock musical,
adapted by Andrew Lloyd Webber, and based on the hit movie, starring Jack Black. He is
performing three roles: James, Zach, and Lawrence, who are all students at the prestigious prep
school where Dewey Finn, a failed rock star, becomes their substitute teacher and turns them
into a rock band.
The tour started in Korea on January 12th, 2024, at the Seoul Arts Centre, a modern and
spacious venue that hosts various cultural events. It will run until March 24th, 2024, and then
move to the Dream Theatre, the largest musical theatre in Korea, in April, where the audience
can enjoy world-class productions in a state-of-the-art facility.
The international tour is different from the UK & Ireland tour, which had 42 children in the cast,
including Makisig’s sister Marikit, who played the role of Katie, the shy bass-player. The
international tour has only 14 children, who are all supremely talented and play multiple roles.
Makisig is one of them, and he is amazing at playing the guitar and the keyboard.
But this is not Makisig’s first time on stage. He made his debut in the West End, the heart of
London’s theatre scene, at the Sondheim Theatre, which was formerly known as the Queen’s
Theatre and was renamed in honour of the legendary composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim
in 2019. The theatre is famous for being the home of Les Misérables, the longest-running
musical in the West End, which has been playing there since 2004. The musical is based on the
epic novel by Victor Hugo, which depicts the French Revolution and the struggles of its
characters.
Makisig played the prominent role of Gavroche, a brave and rebellious street urchin who joins
the revolutionaries and sacrifices his life for their cause. He impressed the critics and the
audience with his singing, acting, and charisma.
Makisig Akiwumi is living his dream, and we are so proud of him. He is an inspiration for all the
young aspiring actors and musicians out there. What do you think of his amazing story? Let us
